Bray Head Cross

Lokaler Name: Bray Head Cross

Bray Head is a hill in northern County Wicklow between the towns of Bray and Greystones. At its top, 190 m above sea level, there is a high stone cross. It was placed here in 1950 during the celebration of the Holy Year. Its location offers panoramic views of Bray, North East Wicklow, and Dublin Bay. You can also see the neighboring mountains: Great Sugar Loaf and Carrickgollogan, called Kathy Gallagher by the locals.

There is a direct but bumpy path to the cross that begins just outside the parking lot on the lower northern slopes south of the Bray Esplanade. It takes about half an hour to reach the top. The second trail goes from Southern Cross through Bray Golf Club and is easier to climb. There is also a fairly steep trail that rises up from the Greystones cliff.

Every Good Friday a procession takes place here along the Stations of the Cross. The last one is at the cross at the very top.
