Lokaler Name: Quiet Man Museum

In 1953, John Ford made one of his most famous films, "The Quiet Man," in and around Cong, starring, among others, John Wayne. The cottage where the scenes for the film were shot has been converted into a museum which is a replica of the film scenery. The museum also organizes daily walks along the trail of the filming locations.

"Peaceful Man" was a movie hit in the mid-twentieth century. In 1953, John Ford won an Oscar for his directing. Maureen O'Hara and Barry Fitzgerald also starred in the film alongside Wayne. Most of the shots were taken in the west of Ireland, and the main filmmakers base was Cong, on the border between Mayo and Galway.

The seat of the museum is a cottage in which the layout of the main character's house has been reconstructed. It is not too big, but an additional attraction as part of visiting the museum is a walk around Cong, to the places where the film was filmed. It is run by museum staff, and during the walk, characters related to the film also appear, playing the most recognizable scenes.
