The University of Oulu Botanical Garden is located approximately 7 km north of the city center. It is one of the northernmost science gardens in the world. It was founded in 1960. Currently, its collections include over 4,000 species of plants from around the world.

In the botanical garden there are two greenhouses with a characteristic pyramid shape. The Julia pyramid is 14 meters high and houses a collection of Mediterranean and temperate plants. They include, among others citrus trees and cedars. The Romeo pyramid measures 16 meters in height and is intended for collections of tropical and subtropical species. There you can see plants such as banana trees, cocoa trees, tea bushes, orchids and gardenias.

The outer area of the University of Oulu Botanical Garden is divided into thematic zones. Usable plants, healing and ornamental plants grow here. There is also an arboretum with woody plants, a rock garden and an area with artificial ponds.
