The lighthouse stands on the Rubjerg Knude cliff, in the wildest stretch of beach between Lønstrup and Løkken. The building is 23 meters high and has the form of a tower built on a square plan. Its light is 90 m above sea level and reaches 15 km into the sea.
The lighthouse was built in 1899, but was closed in 1968. The old buildings used by staff were then converted into a museum and café, which remained in use until 2002. Due to soil erosion and sand shifting, the lighthouse was moved inland on special rails in 2019.
