Cathrinesminde Ziegelei

Lokaler Name: Cathrinesminde Teglværk

Cathrinesminde Teglværk is a former brickyard built on the Flensburg Fjord. Following the closure of production, the plant was transformed into a museum that is now part of the Sønderjylland Museum. In 2007, the brickyard was declared a national industrial monument.

During the tour, you can see the well-preserved, original equipment of the brickyard, including clay kneading and forming machines, dryers and ring furnaces. There is an exhibition on the history of brick firing over the centuries and a historical workshop for organized groups. The former houses of workers were also open to the public.

The brickyard was founded in 1732. The first bricks produced there were sent to Copenhagen, where they were used to rebuild the city destroyed in a fire in 1728. The factory operated until 1968.
