The botanical garden was established in 1875 in the vicinity of the Old Town. It covers hilly terrain with extensive lawns, trees and shrubs typical of Danish landscapes. A stream flows through it, creating three picturesque lakes. There are also picnic areas and a playground for children.
One of the most important parts of the garden are greenhouses established at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s and expanded in 2011-2014. They are divided into 4 climatic zones. There is also a modern Tropical House with a spacious dome. In total, nearly 2,000 plant species from around the world grow in greenhouses.
In addition, the gardens include a rose garden, a collection of rhododendrons and lilies. With children in mind, adventure routes have been marked out here, with interesting facts and traces to be found.
