Bispetorvet

Lokaler Name: Bispetorvet

Bispetorvet is a city square with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Its present appearance is the result of a thorough reconstruction carried out in 2009. The square is 110 m long and 45 m wide. There is a Viking Museum, a cathedral and a theater. There is also a horse statue of Christian X and two drinking water fountains.

On three sides, the square is surrounded by a small sandstone wall. On the wall adjacent to the theater building there is a slab on which you can see a fossil imprint of a dinosaur's paw, most likely an Allosaurus. Next to it, there is an information board about the fossils.

For many years, archaeological research devoted to the Viking age was conducted at Bispetorvet. Nowadays, numerous city cultural events are organized here.
