Izbuc Monastery in Călugări was the first Orthodox monastery founded in Transylvania. Its history dates back to the middle of the Middle Ages, and the modern monastery was built in 1928-1930. It houses the miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which is a copy of the icon from the Holy Mount Athos.
There is a karst spring in the monastery, the water of which is known for its healing properties and is considered miraculous. The name "Izbuc" comes from this source. According to a local legend, by washing his face with water, a blind child fully regained his sight.
During the visit, it is worth paying attention to the former monastery church from the end of the 17th century. It was built of wood, in the shape of a ship on a foundation made of stone boulders.
