The Roman camp of Arutela is located in the vicinity of the village of Căciulata. It was founded by Syrian archers in AD 137-138 during the reign of Emperor Hadrian. The fortifications were built on a square plan with a side of 60 m. Additionally, they were reinforced with semicircular towers at the corners and square towers standing on both sides of the main entrance gate.
In the area inside the defensive wall, the remains of barracks, warehouses, stables and forges were discovered. At a distance of 20 meters from the main gate, a 6 meter wide Roman road, lined with stone blocks, was also discovered. It was of strategic importance in the Olt valley.
