Głogów are famous in Polish history, first of all, with the siege that took place here in 1109 during the war with the German army under the command of Henry V. The medieval urban layout and the Castle of the Dukes of Głogów have been preserved here.

The stronghold in Głogów already existed in the 10th century and was an important center on the trade route, and because of its location, it was of great strategic importance. It was raided several times by German troops, and the most famous is its siege of 1109. According to legend, during it, the Germans tied children to siege machines so that the defenders would withdraw from the fight. However, this did not happen, and as a result of fierce defense, the invaders had to break the siege. It is commemorated with the Monument to Głogowski Children.

In the Middle Ages, Głogów was the seat of the Piast dynasty and the capital of the Głogów Duchy. The Archaeological and Historical Museum operates in the 13th century, rebuilt many times in later centuries. Another important medieval monument of the city is the Collegiate Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the 18th century Głogów was turned into a fortress. At that time, fortifications were built, some of which have survived to this day. These are, among others Star Fort, Artillery Tower and fortress buildings, which used to be barracks.

Among the attractions of Głogów are also Chrobry Wellness & Spa, i.e. a municipal swimming pool with recreational facilities, as well as the City Park, where you can see the neoclassical Goethe Pavilion.
