Река Лына
Локальное имя: Rzeka Łyna
It is the largest river in the Warmia and Mazury region. Its picturesque surroundings and the calm current make it extremely popular as a canoeing route.
Łyna has springs near the village of the same name - north of Nidzica, in a nature reserve. It flows through numerous lakes and is the left tributary of the Pregoła River flowing into the Vistula Lagoon. The total length of the Łyna's course is 289 km, of which 200 km is located in Poland and the rest of the Kaliningrad Oblast, which belongs to Russia.
The Łyna River in the vicinity of Lidzbark Warmiński is a refuge for many species of waterfowl. There are, among others, herons, storks, as well as cranes and mallard ducks. Its waters are also inhabited by several river insects, which are endangered with extinction.
During a canoeing trip on the Łyna in 1958, Karol Wojtyła received information about the nomination for the bishop of Krakow.
