Pompeii is a city at the foot of Mount Vezuwisz, whose fame is associated with the local, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. The town itself is primarily a base for tourist traffic concentrated on the complex of historic ruins.

Ancient Pompeii existed from the 7th century BC under the rule of the Oscas, Greeks, Etruscans, and finally the Romans. It was thanks to them that agriculture, grown on fertile volcanic soils, developed here. In the period from the fourth to the first century BC, many public buildings were erected in Pompeii, including a numerous temple and an amphitheater.

The dynamic development of the city was interrupted in AD 79 by the destructive eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pompeii was buried under a layer of lava and ash. The rediscovery of the buried buildings did not take place until the 16th century, and the archaeological work continues until today. In addition to the buildings themselves, such as the Roman Forum buildings, numerous villas and residential houses, thermal baths and temples, well-preserved wall paintings have been discovered here, which are today a showcase of excavations.
