Dolphin Discovery is a company that organizes trips from Kilrush Harbor to the Shannon Estuary, where Ireland's largest colony of bottlenose dolphins lives. Tourists can also take a cruise to Scattery Island, where the remains of a monastery from the 6th century have been preserved.
About 100 bottle-nosed dolphins live in the Shannon River estuary. They are one of the greatest natural attractions of Ireland's west coast. Cruises from Kilrush to watch the herd pass by are made several times a day. Each trip takes approximately two and a half hours.
Dolphin Discovery also has its own ferry that runs between Kilrush and Scattery Island approximately 5 kilometers offshore in high season. It is the site where one of the first monasteries in this area was founded. Its ruins can still be seen today.
