Ballybunion Castle

Локальное имя: Ballybunion Castle

The ruins of Ballybunion Castle perched on a cliff above the beach on the coast of County Kerry in Western Ireland. Until our times, only one wall remained from the castle in the form of a residential tower. Currently, it is a monument that is made available to tourists.

The castle was built around 1500 by the Fitzmaurice family. It was one of the fifteen fortresses that defended the coast of Kerry. It was besieged and destroyed many times during the uprisings against the British, it began to fall into ruin in the 19th century. In 1998, a great storm seriously damaged the existing ruins, which, however, were saved and renovated.

In the past, the castle had the form of a four-story tower with a rectangular base. The defense posts were located on the top floor and roof. Currently, only one stone wall facing the sea has survived.
