Carrigafoyle Castle

Carrigafoyle Castle is located at the mouth of the River Shannon to the sea. It is a 15th-century building, currently in ruins. It stands in a swamp in what was once an island. It is a rectangular tower with a height of five floors.

The castle was defended in the past by the mouth of the Shannon River. He was standing on an island looking out of the water. It was very heavily fortified. The five-storey high walls have survived to this day. The castle can be reached by a narrow, stone-lined causeway. It is flooded with water at high tide.

The castle was partially rebuilt and the most dangerous places were secured. A spiral staircase takes you to the top floor of the building. Some of the interior walls have been preserved. The interior is poorly lit because, due to the defensive nature of the building, it had very narrow windows.
