The Fisheries Watchtower Museum

Локальное имя: Fisheries Watchtower Museum

The Fisheries Watchtower is the smallest museum in Galway. It is housed in a Victorian observation tower intended in the past to observe salmon flowing over to spawn. From its interior, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Corrib River. Old fishing equipment and pictures of fishing are gathered here.

Corrib is one of the shortest and fastest Irish rivers. It is also the site of the annual wandering of salmon. Once a year, Galway and its surroundings have become the country's fishing capital for a long time. Special bridges for anglers and locks were built on the river to slow down the flowing fish.

One of the elements of the fishing infrastructure is the Observation Tower built in 1852. It is a regular, square structure with a hipped roof. After renovation, its small interior houses a museum dedicated to fishing. You can see fishing rods, fish nets, lures, fishing knives and clothes used by fishermen. There is also a large collection of photos of fishing.
