North Bull Island

Локальное имя: North Bull Island

North Bull Island is an island located in the Dublin Bay. It is covered with beaches, dunes, wet meadows and swamps. There are also two private golf courses on the island. Here you can go swimming, kite surfing, walking and bird watching. The island was the first official bird sanctuary in the country in 1930. In 1981, it was granted the status of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, due to the rare and endangered habitats and species, and the presence of a large number of wintering birds.

More than 300 plant species grow here, including some rare and officially protected. Among the birds you can meet here, among others seeders, oystercatchers, terns, geese and ducks. Mammals are represented by hedgehogs, rabbits, hares, foxes and rats.
Bull Island was founded 200 years ago as a result of the construction of a wall in the port of Dublin. It continues to widen out towards the sea which is a relatively rare natural phenomenon in Ireland. Currently, it is approx. 5 km long and 1 km wide.
