Surrounded by gardens, Huntington Castle is one of the most important monuments in Carlow County. It is a seventeenth-century noble residence, which is now open to tourists. You can see a recreated kitchen, living rooms, a drawing studio and a small art gallery. The picturesque garden is a perfect place for walks.
Initially, the headquarters of the British garrison was located in Clonegal. In the 17th century, after its relocation, the buildings were given to the family of the Esmonde barons, who changed it into the family seat. Successive generations rebuilt the castle, which today is a building in which you can find various architectural styles. From the very beginning, the castle was surrounded by a large park. In the immediate vicinity of the house, it took the form of a French garden with flower beds and trimmed hedges. In the distance there is a romantic English park that is designed to look like a natural grove.
An interesting fact about the Castle is the Temple of Isis located on its territory. It was founded in the 1970s by an association to which the owner of the property belonged. It worshiped the ancient gods of ancient Egypt.
