About 60 of his paintings are now on display in the house where Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) was born. The museum of one of the most famous French realists of the 19th century derives from a permanent gallery opened in 1971 in Ornans by a distant relative of Courbet, the painter Robert Fernier.
