Autun is a historic town on the site of a Roman settlement, many of which have been preserved. Its decoration is the Romanesque cathedral of St. Lazarus.

During the Roman period, Autun was a large center of commerce that grew rapidly. Today, its remains can be seen in the archaeological park.
