Petrich is a border town situated at the foot of the Bielasica Mountains, in the Struma river valley. Its surroundings are perfect for hiking, and there are several interesting sights in the city itself.

The city was founded in the 10th century within the Bulgarian State, but the traces of settlement in this area are much earlier. The attractions of Petrich include, among others Archaeological Site of Syntica Heracles from Greek times. Important monuments are also the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Church of St. Nicholas.

The most important attraction of Petrich is the Museum of the House of Vanga, a blind mystic and healer, to which until 1996 patients came from all over Bulgaria. She is also credited with numerous predictions about the future of the country and its fate.

Petrich is also a good starting point for exploring the surrounding mountains. One of the excursion destinations is the Radomir peak, but there are many other hiking trails in the area. The attraction of this area are the Rupite mineral springs, which remain only partially developed.
