The Table of Silence is one of the three elements of the monumental sculpture by the sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, located in Târgu Jiu. The other two parts are the Kiss Gate and the Endless Column. All three elements are placed on the same axis with a length of 1275 m. The sculpture is a tribute to the soldiers who died during the First World War.
The round stone table is surrounded by 12 hourglass-shaped chairs to symbolize the passing of time. Various interpretations of the sculpture have arisen, the most popular of which says that it is a reference to the Last Supper. The table is to symbolize Christ and the chairs are to symbolize the apostles. According to another version, the idea of the table refers to traditional family reunions and Brâncuși's dream to encourage people to cultivate them further.
