The National Firefighters Museum is housed in a watchtower from the end of the 20th century. At the time of construction, it was the tallest building in Bucharest. Currently, on 6 floors, you can see exhibitions devoted to the history of firefighting and the daily work of firefighters over the years. On the top floor there is a viewpoint from which you can observe the panorama of the city.
The museum's collections include collections of old firefighting uniforms, flags, decorations, documents, maps and photos. Here you can see models of machines and hand pumps used from 1774, as well as models of various fire trucks, from the oldest to the modern ones. A separate exhibition is devoted to the fire that broke out in 1847 and destroyed more than 2,000 buildings in the city.
The tower was used by the fire brigade as a watchtower until 1935. In 1963 it was transformed into a museum.
