Puertas Gniezno

Nombre local: Drzwi Gnieźnieńskie

Ubicado dentro de : Catedral de gniezno

Unique in the country and one of the few monuments of this type in the world. Romanesque, bronze Gniezno Doors, also known as the Doors of St. Adalbert, are located in the internal portal of the basilica in Gniezno. On each of the wings there are 9 panels with scenes from the life and martyrdom of St. Wojciech - the patron saint of Europe, the first martyr for the faith in Poland.

The doors were made in the 12th century, during the reign of Prince Mieszko III the Old, by unknown artists. They consist of 2 unequal wings - the left one, 328 x 84 cm, cast entirely of bronze, and the right one, 323 x 83 cm, made after soldering 24 separate parts.

The Gniezno Cathedral, decorated with the Door, was the first place of the coronation of Polish kings, and from 1418 the archbishops of Gniezno had the title of the Primate of Poland.
