The cathedral in Lecce is one of the top achievements of baroque construction in this part of Italy. It was built in the 17th century with the use of the walls of an earlier Romanesque cathedral. It is a three-nave church with a transept, the interior of which is divided by columns and pilasters. There are 12 chapels with decorated altars in the aisles. The whole is covered with a flat ceiling with cassettes. There is a baroque belfry from the second half of the 17th century next to the church.
