The Gregory Killtartan Family Museum is located just outside the small town of Gort in Co. Galway. It is located in the old school building. His collection consists of two exhibitions. The first is devoted to life and learning at school at the turn of the 20th century, and the second is about the Irish writer WB Yeats and his stay in the area.
The place where the museum building stands is called Kiltartan Cross. According to legend, it was here that the blind poet Rafferty met his love Marry, called the beauty of Ballylee. In 1892, the owner of the Coole Park estate, William Gregory, built a school at Kiltartan. After his death, she was supported by his wife, Lady Gregory, who established a cultural center on the Coole estate. Writers, poets and painters, headed by WB Yeats, used to come here.
Much of the museum's congregations are items donated by Lady Gregory. These include letters, photographs, Yeats manuscripts, turn-of-the-century paintings, Gaelic renewal documents, and folklore collections. The second room presents the appearance of a school from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries with full equipment.
