Castillo Delvin

Nombre local: Delvin Castle

The ruins of Delvin Castle stand on the main street of the village of the same name. These are the remains of a medieval stone stronghold, from which two towers and part of a residential tower have survived to this day.

The castle was probably built at the end of the 12th century. It was home to the Nugget family, related to the Lords of Meath. The stronghold began to decline in the 17th century, after the wars with Cromwell's troops. It was a square structure with four cylindrical towers in the corners. Two of them have survived to this day.

The castle is considered a historical monument and is under protection. The entrance to its premises is open. However, you need to be careful not to climb walls from which stones may fall off. There is also the Victorian Clonyn Castle in Delvin, which is sometimes referred to in the guides as Delvin Castle.
