The 13th-century castle was built to observe the Arguenon River, 2 km away - the border between the warring lands of Penthièvre and Poudouvre. After being damaged during the French Revolution, the castle remained in ruins until the 20th century. After partial restoration, it became a popular tourist attraction. The castle kitchen is famous for one of the largest known fireplaces, 18 m wide.
