La Iglesia Sandburied

Nombre local: Den Tilsandede Kirke

The historic tower is the only remnant of a church built here in 1375, one of the oldest buildings in Skagen. From the 16th century onwards, the temple was buried more and more by a moving dune, and in 1795 a decision was made to close and demolish the church. Only the tower has been preserved, which now serves as a landmark and viewing point.

The church was built in the Gothic style. Red brick was used for the construction of the main building, and yellow patterned brick for the tower, which was whitewashed in the first half of the 19th century. The temple was 46 meters long and 22 meters high. Currently, about 18 m of the tower can be seen above the sand.
