Aglantzia is one of the suburbs of Nicosia. It is located near the buffer zone between North and South Cyprus. It is home to the Athalassa Forest Park.
In the area of the village, traces of settlement dating back to the 4th millennium BC have been found. In Greek times, there was a small sanctuary dedicated to the Nymphs. On the other hand, the modern city dates back to the 10th-11th centuries. There was a castle here, from which the ruins of two towers have survived. There are also two Orthodox churches in the city, St. Nectarius and St. George and the Police Museum.
The greatest attraction of Aglantzia is the Athalassa forest park. It is a protected area covering a Mediterranean forest with lush vegetation. There are marked hiking trails there. In the neighborhood there is also the Athalassa National Forest Park Center with nature exhibitions. When going to the park, remember that part of its area is in the zone occupied by Turkey, which prevents access to it.
