Rocha is a coastal department rich in wonderful beaches, lagoons and dunes. There are two national parks here that offer the possibility of watching water birds and seals. A large part of the local coast is included in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The two biggest attractions of the Rocha region are the Cabo Polonio National Park and the Santa Teresa National Park. They occupy areas in lagoons, between the sea and coastal lakes. In the Cabo Polonio Park you can visit the lighthouse, dunes and the South Beach. These are areas where you can relax in contact with nature. In turn, the attraction of the Santa Teresa Park is the historic Fortress of Santa Teresa. Military architecture enthusiasts can also visit Fort San Miguel, located a short distance away.
Along the coast of Rocha you will find beautiful, mostly wild beaches. These include Grande beach, Cerro Verde beach, La Balconada beach, Viuda beach and La Calavera beach. Many of them are located away from the village and guarantee peace and solitary contact with nature and beautiful views.
