Maldonado is a coastal city surrounded by numerous beaches. Although it was established in the 16th century, its buildings are largely contemporary. Currently, thanks to its natural conditions, it is an important point on the tourist map of Uruguay.
The city was founded in the mid-16th century, but its significant development only began two centuries later. In the center, some colonial buildings have been preserved, the decoration of which is the Cathedral of Sao Fernando. However, the vast majority of buildings are modern skyscrapers that reach as far as the beaches. When visiting Maldonado, it is worth going to the San Antonio hill, from which there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area. There is also a small, charming San Antonio Chapel.
The Maldonado is surrounded by beautiful coastal lagoons and beaches. These are the lakes of Sauce and Garzon. On the latter, an unusual Moast on Lake Garzon was built, on which in the central part individual roadways divide to form a circle. Among the highlights of Maldonado are Brava and Chihuahua beaches and Las Delicias Beach.
