The palace was built in the second half of the XVI century at the behest of the first Marquis of Santa Cruz - Álvaro de Bazán. The Renaissance residence has been declared a national monument. It is the only Italian-style palace preserved in Spain. Currently, the building is the seat of the General Archives of the Navy.
