Tablas Daimiel National Park was established to protect the floodplains of the Cigüela and Guadiana rivers in Castile-La Mancha. It belongs to the European network of protected areas Natura 2000, and is also part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve. The area is home to many species of birds, incl. purple heron, night heron and black crested duck.
