The Jurassic Museum of Asturias presents exhibits related to the Triassic, Yura and Chalk. It shows the geological stages and the development of various life forms. Visitors can see more than 20 life-size replicas of dinosaurs, footprints, fossils and archaeological finds. The facility hosts educational workshops in the field of palaeontology and scientific meetings, because the main mission of the museum is to disseminate knowledge. Additionally, the facility has a library with extensive thematic collections and a modern laboratory.
The building in which the museum is located was built especially for this purpose in the 1990s, according to a design by Rufino Uribelarrea. The architectural shape of the building resembles a giant flying dinosaur. It offers an exhibition space of 2,500 square meters. The facility was officially opened to visitors in 2004.
