ARGAMASILLA DE ALBASpain
Peñarroya Castle
Local name: Castillo de Peñarroya
A fortress from the 12th century, using the cliff on the south and west sides of the walls as a natural defense mechanism. It was founded as a Muslim stronghold, but in 1198 it passed into the hands of Christians, becoming the seat of the Order of San Juan. Legend has it that during the conquest of the fortress, the image of the Mother of God, worshiped to this day, was found. In summer, pilgrimages are organized here.
