Castle of Alvor

The ruins of a medieval castle standing on a craggy cliff above the beach. The beginnings of the fortress date back to the 7th century, but Carthaginians and Phoenicians had their fortifications here before. Today's appearance of the castle is the result of reconstruction from the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. Inside the partially ruined walls there is a park with a playground. A viewing platform has been placed on the preserved tower.
