Fort of São João das Maias

17th century fort standing at the mouth of the Tagus to the sea. It is a polygonal building with turrets in the corners. Adjacent to it is a new, reinforced concrete part erected in the 20th century. Since 1976, the fort is again in the hands of the army and is used for army training camps.
