Castle Mill

Local name: Młyn Zamkowy

The Castle Mill in Słupsk is the oldest preserved industrial object in Poland. It's a brick Gothic construction built on a rectangular plan. It has the Renaissance interior and granary-like windows. It consists of the exhibitions and the workshop of the Ethnographic Department of the Museum of Middle Pomerania, and the Amber Gallery.

The Castle Mill was built as a watermill in the first half of the 14th century in the area of the former prince's property before the castle existed. It was also used as a granary. The mill was rebuilt many times throughout its history gaining many Renaissance features.

The millstone was powered by waters of the water channel flowing into Słupia. In the next centuries, it was replaced with turbines. The Castle Mill was passed to the Museum of Middle Pomerania in 1965. The building has been renovated and got back its Renaissance decor. The headquarters of the Ethnographic Department of the Museum of Middle Pomerania is located here since 1968.
