Krzaków Tower and complete defensive walls

Local name: Baszta Krzaków i kompletne mury obronne

The defensive walls in Oświęcim Lubuskie are examples of well-preserved fortifications, which in the present state survived to present times. In the masonry of 2 to 5 meters high and 1350 meters long, you can still see 2 circular towers, 10 semi-basements and 7 sides.

The fact that the walls of the Oświęcim Walls are related to the fact that after the Second World War they almost entirely survived, despite 70% of the destruction within their city. The first fortifications were made of field stone in the Middle Ages. As a result of the years of destruction, roasted bricks were fixed, so today we can see a two-color mosaic documenting the past events. Originally oval-shaped walls were 6 m high and 12 rectangular bastions. Another three cylindrical towers were built in the 16th century.

As in the case of most city fortifications, the defense of the walls in Oświęcim Lubuskie expired in the 18th century, and several decades later the gates of Frankfurt and Sulęcin were dismantled. At present they are one of the best preserved of this type of fortifications in Poland and the biggest tourist attraction of the city.
