The Mechowska Grotto, also known as the Cave in Mechowa, is a peculiarity of nature throughout the European Lowlands. Since 1955, it has been protected as a monument of inanimate nature. Currently, only a small section of the cave, approximately 60 meters long, has been made available to tourists. It has the form of a low maze with narrow and small corridors. A tourist trail runs next to it.
There are several entrances to the cave separated by columns of sandstone with a characteristic shape. You can see various formations, including stalactites, ribs and coatings. Due to the presence of iron compounds, they have a partially red color.
The first mention of the cave and its official measurements date back to 1818, and since 1829 it has been a tourist attraction. Since then, collapses of varying degrees of severity have occurred several times, but each time reconstruction work was carried out and dangerous sections were secured. The last collapse of the corridors took place in 1981.
