KOSTRZYN NAD ODRĄPoland
Bastion Philipp
Local name: Bastion Filip
Bastion Philipp is one of the bastions of Kostrzyn Castle. Its total area amounts to almost 1800 m2. It was built in the 16th century during the first period of the castle's fortification. The local observation deck has a good view of the Oder Valley. The major part of casemates is opened to the public.
The bastion was constructed as an opened courtyard closed by the sand embankment in 1568 in order to protect the castle. Later, it was reinforced with the brick wall. In the beginning, there also were towers with shooting stands but they were given up in the 18th century. The irregular structure of the object is a result of two rivers - the Oder and the Vistula. Since 1923, the permanent exposition dedicated to Kostrzyn Castle is presented here.Less
