Church of the Holy Saviour and All Saints
Local name: Kościół Najświętszego Zbawiciela i Wszystkich Świętych
The Church of the Holy Saviour and All Saints is the second largest church in Warmia and part of the Gothic collegiate complex from the 14th century. It got the title of Lesser Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1989, on its 600th anniversary. It's worth to take a look at tombstones and epitaphs from the 15th-18th centuries, paintings from the 17th century, and the richly decorated pulpit from 1693.
At the end of the 19th century, the church underwent the regothicisation - the process during which its Gothic look was brought back. Unfortunately, many monuments were destroyed during works, mostly the Baroque and Mannerist equipment. Only five altars remained to this day from 15. The oldest is the St. Mary's Triptych from around 1430. The biggest reconstruction took place in the 1890s. Another attempt of restoring the church to its former glory was carried out 90 years later. It was then when, among others, pipe organs were extended what provided a basis for the organization of concerts.Less
