Troms is a region entirely behind the Arctic Circle, where polar night and day occur. It is known as the perfect place to observe the northern lights, as well as for its harsh landscapes.
Tromsø was founded in the 18th century. It is a lively city where you can see, among others, the Polar Museum, the amazing Arctic Cathedral built in 1965, and the northernmost botanical garden in the world. The most beautiful view of Tromso can be admired from the Storsteinen hill, which can be reached on foot or by cable car.
The Troms coast is cut by bays and fjords. Small rocky islands stick out from the sea. Inland, you can see bare, snowy mountain peaks until late spring. They are not very high, but because they start at sea level, they give the impression of being higher. It is an excellent area for hiking, quad biking and cross-country skiing in winter.
