Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius and its largest city. It is a tourist center as well as a large commercial port. It has a nice center with preserved colonial buildings and lots of oriental touches like Chinese and Indian temples.

The city was founded in the first half of the 18th century and named after the French king Louis XV. Since the nineteenth century, it attracted a lot of migrants, mainly from India and China. As a result, it has become a multicultural city, and the temples of many denominations that can be visited are a reflection of this. Places of worship such as the Jummah Masijd Mosque, Madurei Mariamen Temple, Tamil Temple, Port Luis Cathedral, and St. James are among the most important attractions of Port Louis.

In addition to the temples from the old buildings, the Citadel and the governor's colonial residence have also survived. The Aapravasi Ghat, a complex of port buildings that served as a reception center for Indian labor immigrants, is of great historical importance. it is currently included in the UNESCO list.

To learn about the history of Mauritius, you can go to one of several museums. These are the Blue Penny Museum, the Mauritian Post Museum and the Mauritius Museum of Photography. The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden and the Caudan Waterfront promenade full of restaurants and bars is a great place for walks. You can get to know the local cuisine and products on the Central Market, where fishermen and farmers sell their goods.
