Eilat is one of Israel's main holiday resorts, situated on the Red Sea, on the Gulf of Aqaba. The coast offers the opportunity to relax on beautiful beaches, watch the coral reef and practice water sports.
Although the history of Eilat goes back to ancient times, when there was a port on the Red Sea, today there are practically no traces of this period. However, you can find them in the nearby Timna Park, where, among others, have been preserved. remains of ancient copper mines. Today, Eilat is on the one hand an important strategic and commercial port and, on the other hand, a thriving holiday center. The beach in Eilat is divided into two parts - north and south. In the southern part, in the vicinity of the coral reef, there is an Underwater Observatory and the Dolphin Reef, where you can swim and dive with dolphins. The coast offers good conditions for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, sea kayaking and diving. The Eilat Coral Reserve is located on the beach.
Eilat is a modern resort that provides tourists with plenty of entertainment. There are bars and clubs here, and thanks to the duty free zone it is a bit cheaper here than in other parts of Israel. The Eilat Marina is located next to the port, where yachts and luxury boats are moored. There are many restaurants and shops around. The evening attraction are the musical fountain in Eilat, while during the day you can go to the Botanical Garden and the Ornithological Park.
The outskirts of the city encompass the barren yet beautiful landscapes of the Negev Desert. Many hiking trails have been marked out in Timna Park. In its central part there is an oasis with accommodation. Many tourists also go to the picturesque Red Canyon, located north of the city. This is a great place for a short hiking trip.
