Portmarnock Beach

The sandy beach is surrounded by sand dunes that extend all the way to the nearby Portmarnock Championship golf course. The beach was the starting point for two pioneering flights, including the famous "Southern Cross" in 1930. This event is commemorated by a monument located by the beach.
