The Kilmurry Independence Museum is a private institution run by the local Association of History and Archeology Lovers. It shows materials related to the participation of local residents in the uprisings against British rule and the civil war that led to the creation of the Irish Free State.
The museum was founded at the beginning of the 21st century. Its collection includes documents, photos, family heirlooms, weapons and uniforms of combatants. The museum also displays the old costumes of the local people, home furnishings and craft workshops that show life in Kilmurry in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Museum and Association organize numerous meetings, lectures and historical talks. In summer, you can also take part in trips and walks to places related to the fight for Irish independence.
