Cape Clear Museum and Archive

The Cape Clear Island Museum and Archives is a small institution dedicated to bringing you closer to the heritage of Cape Clear Island. It has in its collection documents, maps, home furnishings and a large collection of equipment used on boats and in the port service.

The lives of the people of Cape Clear have always been associated with the sea. Therefore, it is the maritime theme that occupies the main place in the museum exhibition. Here you can see old boats and their equipment, fishing gear, fishermen's clothes and tools for preparing caught fish.

The museum's collection is very large, but its building is small. The institution is located in a small, former school. Therefore, each year the main exhibition is changed to show visitors the different aspects of the island's cultural and historical heritage.
