Þingvellir National Park
Local name: Þjóðgarðurinn á Þingvöllum
The national park was founded in the place where Althing, the national parliament of Iceland, met in 930-1798. It covers a green area on the banks of the Öxará River. It is one of the points on the Golden Circle tourist route, and since 2004 has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
